The basics
How to play Catan
The casual version of the rules. log8 shows the same guide in the app, on the game's page.
- Players3 or 4 players. Expansions take up to 6.
- How to winFirst to 10 victory points, on their own turn, wins.
- How groups differSome groups play to 12 points for a longer game. Agree before you start.
- Each player starts with 2 settlements and 2 roads.
- On your turn, roll two dice. Every tile with that number gives resources to the settlements and cities around it.
- Trade with other players, or with the bank at 4 of one resource for 1 of another.
- Spend resources to build roads, settlements and cities, or to buy development cards.
- Roll a 7 and you move the robber. Anyone holding more than 7 cards gives up half.
- Settlements are 1 point and cities are 2. Longest road and largest army are 2 points each.
Play better
Catan tips
- Start next to 6s and 8s. They come up most.
- Get a mix of resources so you always have something to trade.
- Brick and wood matter early. Ore and wheat matter late.

- Pick the game and the playersChoose Catan, then everyone who played. Friends without log8 can join as guests.
- Enter the resultRecord the finishing order, with times, strokes, points or kilos if you have them.
- The other players approveFriends on log8 get 48 hours to approve it, or tap Disagree if it is wrong. Guests count straight away. A result nobody answers closes without counting.
- Your record updatesOnce it is official it counts toward your head-to-head records, group board, badges and cups.

Can I keep Catan scores with friends in log8?
Yes. Catan is one of the 72 built-in games. Record the finishing order, with times, strokes, points or kilos if you have them. The other players approve it, then it counts.
How do you win at Catan?
First to 10 victory points, on their own turn, wins.
How many people play Catan?
3 or 4 players. Expansions take up to 6.
Do people play Catan differently?
Some groups play to 12 points for a longer game. Agree before you start.
Do my friends need the app?
No. Add a friend as a guest and the game counts straight away. If they join log8 later, the games move to their account.
